Tomorrow is SwagBuck’s Thursday Extravaganza

Make sure to head over to Swagbucks.com tomorrow to score 5 different codes for extra bucks.

If you’re not a member, you can get an extra bonus 40 swagbucks by entering SwagCode BackToSchool. So if you ever thought about becoming a Swaggernaut (that’s what they call us swagbuck members), THIS IS THE WEEK TO DO IT.

When you register (btw it’s free), you automatically get started with 30 swagbucks but add the extra 40 bonus BackToSchool bucks and you’ve got 70 swagbucks…just for signing up – THIS WEEK ONLY! You can earn even more swagbucks by participating in polls, referring friends, shopping through their site, using swagbucks as your internet search engine, as well as a few other methods. My biggest swagbuck earner comes from my internet searches. I have not downloaded the toolbar….yet…but I changed my search engine default from Google to swagbucks so each time I type keywords into my status bar I earn more ‘bucks.

Once you accumulate so many ‘bucks, you trade them in for sweepstakes entries, prizes like iPods or computers, or even gift certificates to places like Amazon or other popular stores. I’m hoping to accumulate enough ‘bucks to pay for part of my Christmas.

Are you a swaggernaut? If you are, what do you do with your ‘bucks???

Nielson Homescan is Taking Applications Again!!!

Every few weeks Nielson takes applications for their scanner program. Unfortunately I don’t live in an area where they have a live program but I am on the waiting list.

The program is simple. Basically you use a bar code scanner to scan all the products you purchase each week. Electronically the data is sent to Nielson to help determine consumer spending habits in various parts of the country. Every time you upload data, you are entered to win a variety of products and prizes. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the program so I’m hoping a spot opens up soon in my area!

Enjoy the Summer w/Red Baron (Giveaway – 2 Winners)

Rainy Day Picnic Today is the first official day of summer vacation in my house. You see, yesterday was the last day of school! The excitement’s been building for a few weeks but FINALLY summer is here!!!

Summertime is a busy time for us. We spend a lot of time outdoors. Biking to the post office. Playing in the park. Working in the garden. Window shopping at the greenhouse (& playing in their fantastic sandbox)! The list goes on and on but all this activity makes it’s difficult to prepare a quick lunch – other than a lame-o sandwich! ;D

Win BIG with The Real Food Project

One of my favorite Food Network chefs if Bobby Flay! Most of his recipes make my taste buds do the “dance of joy”! There are a few of his dishes I find a little too spicy but I simply scale back the heat. The risk of cooking like a southwestern style chef! My favorite quality is how he creates gourmet dishes with common ingredients found in the everyday cook’s pantry. This is what sets Bobby apart from other celebrity chefs and makes his recipes so appealing.

Chef Flay is lending his wonderfully creative cooking talents to Hellmann’s “The Real Food Project” to help busy families create flavorful simple family style dishes using real food versus pre-process packaged food full of preservatives and generally unpronounceable ingredients. Hellmann’s is also offering some great prizes for just visiting the site. Cooking tools to a new gas grill are up for grabs in their Real Food Sweepstakes. See the press release below for all the details and how you can enter the sweeps.

UPlifting Banana Cream Shortcake Recipe

Have plans to watch the Oscars? Some years we do but we're not devout watchers. When I do watch, it's usually to see the host. I'll check in periodically to see Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin's antics.

If you need a sweet treat to compliment the event, here is a fast and easy dessert guaranteed to UPlift your spirits!

UPlifting Banana Cream Shortcake

Ingredients
Banana cream filling
  • banana flavored instant pudding mix
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
Topping
  • 1 or 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp water or milk
  • chocolate bar (milk, semi sweet or dark) optional
Prepare shortcakes per Bisquick's recipe (or you can substitute your favorite shortcake recipe). Allow to cool and set aside.

Mix banana flavored pudding mix with the milk for 2 minutes. Cover in plastic wrap so the wrap touches the top layer of pudding and refrigerate approximately 20 minutes till set.

Slice your bananas then quarter into bite sized bits. Mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough water or milk to form the icing. Start with 1/4 tsp and work your way up to 1 full tsp. A little liquid goes a long way with powdered sugar.

Build your shortcake. Cut the shortcakes in half. Spoon a thick layer of banana cream mixture onto one half of the shortcakes. Sprinkle with generously bits of banana. Place the shortcakes tops over the banana filling. Drizzle icing over the top. Use a cheese grater or vegetable peeler to shred or shave chocolate for garnish.

From One Coffee Lover to Another

I don't know about you but, we are coffee lovers in my house. Coffee, espresso, cappuccino, lattes; it's all good even if hubster prefers his plain black! I'm a one to two cup a day drinker while Hubster would literally live on the stuff. While driving a truck over the road, he drank it morning, noon, and night. As long as he was behind the wheel, he had a mug full of joe with him. Some habits are hard to break. He still drinks several cups a day and you know he's armed with a cup anytime we travel.
100% Columbian is our family's absolute favorite blend. It provides a full rich flavor without being overpowering or bitter. I love it in my espresso machine. It makes the BEST espresso and latte, better than Starbucks! Here's how I make coffee house drinks at home.
  • Lattes. Blend 1/2 strong espresso with 1/2 milk or flavored creamer steamed with the frothing wand. Combine the two and sweeten as preferred for the perfect latte. Add a squirt of chocolate syrup for a mocha latte or pour over ice for an iced coffee!
  • Cappuccinos. Blend 1/3 strong espresso with 1/3 steamed milk and spoon 1/3 frothed milk over top.
  • Hot chocolate. Steam a mug of cold chocolate milk with the frothing wand.
Being the coffee lover I am, I was excited to find out 100% Columbian Coffee and Juan Valdez is giving away $10,000 and a year's supply of 100% Columbian Coffee in their "What's Behind the Best" sweepstakes. While you're there, take a few moments to learn the philosophy behind 100% Columbian Coffee and along with some fun facts. You can also see if Juan Valdez along with his trusty steed, Conchita, will be in your neighborhood as they tour the country sharing 100% Columbian Coffee.
I told you mine now what is YOUR favorite coffee???
