Annual National Seat Check Saturday/Child Passenger Safety Week

2010 Child Passenger Safety Week The annual National Seat Check Saturday sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is set for September 5th closing out the annual Child Passenger Safety Week (September 19-25). This is the day you can have your child’s restraint system inspected and checked for proper installation and use.

Did you know 3 out 4 child safety seats are used INCORRECTLY???

It’s no wonder. Every brand seems to have it’s own unique installation and use guide with little in common with other child restraint systems. Then there’s the frustration of figuring out what to do with all those straps and hooks and buckles. Add in the emerging media reports about ineffective safety seats, I’m still struggling to keep it all straight three kids later! Thankfully my mini van has a built in booster seat for my four year old with a harness!

Find free child seat inspection stations in your community on Seat Check Saturday and throughout the year at NHTSA’s webpage. You can also find instructional videos, tips and other helpful information at the Ad Council’s page for child safety.

#CPSweek Twitter Party

They are taking questions and providing information on car seats and safe traveling tips with kids. Be sure to follow @ResourcefulMom and @ChildSafetySeat using the hashtag #CPSweek to join the conversation.

You can also find valuable information on Facebook. Check out this news report aired on the Today Show just last week. Is it no wonder we can’t properly secure our children in our vehicles.
