Take better photos for less. If you have a camera on the fritz or not sure what to get the mysterious teenage who’s taken over your home, a shiny new camera might be the answer.
You could dump a small fortune into a camera and accessories thinking more money means better pictures. NOT TRUE!
Digital cameras range WIDELY in price but how do you know which camera takes great pictures? Here’s some of my favorites I’ve used over the years.
Cameras & Video Cameras
I won this Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera in Silver last month through a photography contest. I absolutely love the quality photo’s it produces with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD. Low light images are no longer a problem for me. The resolution is crisp and perfect for candid's of the kids or creating great graphics for the blog. Amazon has it at $149 with free shipping. *Get free 4GB memory card or leather camera case with certain Powershot model purchases on Amazon*
Priced under $100, this is the camera I’ve been using for several years. The Kodak EasyShare 8.0MP Digital Camera in Silver has proven quite durable over the last few years. It’s been dropped more times than I can count and even with the battery cover being held in place with a rubber band (yes a rubber band) the photo quality is still top notch. My favorite feature was using regular AA Batteries instead of a rechargeable battery pack. The last rechargeable battery camera I owned ended up with a warped battery pack and the replacement cost as much as a new camera.
The newest model Flip UltraHD Video Camera with 8 GB offers an extra hour of record time versus my original hot pink Flip UltraHD Video Camera. I love the portability and video quality of my Flip Ultra HD but I often forget to take it with me! Prices range from about $90 up to just under $200. *Amazon is offering a free accessory with a purchase of select Flip Ultra HD models.*
Camera & Video Camera Accessories
A tabletop tripod makes taking steady shots of food, crafts, or even of the kids easier. This nifty Flip Video and Camera Tripod is small enough to go anywhere with you and it fits both Flip Video cameras as well as point and shoot digital cameras. Ringing in at under $10 and FREE shipping, this is the perfect stocking stuffer.
Obviously you need a memory card if you get a new camera. With more camera’s manufactured with an HD mode, the bigger the memory card the better. Get this SanDisk 8 GB Class 2 SDHC Flash Memory Card for under $10 or upgrade to a Transcend 16 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card for just $24.
If you have a digital camera then a digital photo frame would be an excellent gift choice. I received one a few years ago I truly love. Here is a Coby 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame for just $35. This digital frame includes a calendar and alarm clock function but others, like mine, include barometric settings and can even upload wirelessly. If you not sure what to get an in-law, teacher or even a neighbor, this $35 dollar gift looks like you spent more than what you did!
My Santa Wish List
This at the top of my Ultimate Santa list: Nikon D7000 16.2MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR with 3.0-Inch LCD and 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor Lens. It’s scheduled for release later this week but at a price tag of just under $1,700, it won’t be in my stocking this year…unless someone with Nikon is reading this and wants to hook a girl up! In that case, email me!
