Online Education ~ The Future is Here

Most of you know I’m planning on starting school next month to earn my Associates (and eventually Bachelor’s) in Web Design. Online school was the best option for me and my family. Did you know online school is an option for kids in elementary, middle and high school too?

Text Books - a thing of the past! I didn’t know this until I discovered OnlineSchoolSolutions.com. Private online schools you must pay for, much like college, are widely available across the country but there is also growing number of online public schools popping up in many states. It seems there is an online K-12 school available in every state. I have three options available to me in Minnesota!

Online public school is FREE just like traditional public school. Similar to online college both public and private online schools have a wide variety of online resources to enhance your child’s learning experience. Online classes can be used in a variety of situations. Families can supplement a child’s traditional or home school program or even be their primary educational source. High school students can find more challenging Advanced Placement courses so they are better prepare for college. A gifted athlete can maintain a rigorous tournament and training schedule without falling behind in class work. Military families don’t need to worry about the effects of multiple school transfers by switching to the online classroom. It seems online learning has found it’s place in people of all ages and stages of life!

Here’s some interesting stats from a recent survey about online learning.

    • 72% of online students spend three or more hours on homework per week vs. 56% of students in traditional schooling.
    • 54% of online students get more challenges when they are doing well in school vs. 49% of students in traditional schooling.
    • 58% of online students get more help when they fall behind vs. 40% of students in traditional schooling.
    • Online students have more interest in attending a four year college after graduation than students in traditional schooling. 78% vs. 67%

kids on the computer This generation in particular is no stranger to technology so it’s a natural evolution to include education into their online world. In Minnesota, I have access to two state accredited public schools plus one private school. With J being Autistic and having so much trouble in school, he has a whole team of advisors at his school to help him move forward. We’ve had some success with online educational programs so I’m wondering if an online curriculum may help him even more. I plan to discuss enrolling him in one of the public online schools to supplement his in-class education.

Curious about how it all all works? See an online classroom session in action. This is a recorded session from one of OnlineSchoolSolutions.com partners and runs in Java so you may be asked to download or allow the program to run before you can view it. You can also see an online demo from another partnered school. Just click the link that says “view multi-media demo” to begin the demonstration.

Would you enroll your kids in an online class?
