Middle-aged men more so than any other age group. This Father’s Day, the US Dept of Health and the Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality are asking us, the women in our men’s lives, to encourage our father’s, brother’s, uncle’s, and husband’s to make their health a priority.
I know had it not been for my husband’s back injury in 2008, he wouldn’t have seen a doctor at all in the last two years. Men like to tough things out. They think this is what makes them “men”. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I, for one, would like for my man to be around for a long time to come so I’m hoping he reads this post! ;D
I know the lack of healthcare insurance tends to be one reason everyone avoids the doctor but there are many free clinics and income based medical programs to help. Plus this is just one expense that is not an option. It’s like paying rent or a mortgage. You gotta have a place to live, right? Well, you have to maintain good health in order to work to pay the rent/mortgage!
Get the ball rolling with these easy tips.
- Send all the men in YOUR life a special Father’s Day e-card to encourage them to schedule a visit with their healthcare provider. (screenshot below)
- Get them to take this helpful health quiz.
- Empower them with knowledge. They can find out what preventative medical tests are suggested base on their age as well as find helpful tips, a glossary of commonly used terms and lots of other helpful information.
You never know. Doing one of these things just may save a life!
