My Mother’s Day Recap

I really enjoyed my time off yesterday. I didn’t crack open the computer at all yesterday. My husband and I agreed not to exchange any purchased gifts this Mother’s Day since we are in a financial transition with his Worker’s Compensation benefits ending and his Unemployment benefits kicking in after the doctor released him for full work duty a few weeks ago. Of course he’s also looking for work and he’s exploring a couple of options so when his employment status has settled then I may look at getting a new stand mixer for a belated Mother’s Day gift! (My current mixer is from the 70’s with only beater attachments so I can use an upgrade!)

The weather was perfect with lots of sunshine and temps in the mid 60’s. SOOO much better than last year when we were hit with 6 inches of snow! The kids made me gorgeous cards with my nearly 4 year old wishing me a “Happy Mommy’s Day!”.  We rode bikes around the neighborhood. Played ball and Frisbee with a new four-legged friend in the back yard. Climbed trees and ran around the gazebo. All this BEFORE NOON!

Yummy Food Once playtime was over, we cleaned up the kids for a trip down to Grand Forks. We at a fantastic late lunch at Space Aliens Bar & Grill. If you have one nearby, I highly recommend it. The entire restaurant has a “Area 51” theme decor with fun arcade games that award tickets you can trade in for prizes. This is great for keeping the kids occupied while mom and dad have some quality time before dinner arrives!

Speaking of the food…It was fantastic! Space Aliens offers burgers, pizza, bbq, and an assortment of delicious dishes. We normally get the Alien Feast for 2 which allows  us 2 side dishes each plus a pick of 3 meats (brisket, ribs, chicken strips, or bite sized bbq pork chunks called Martian Munchies). We usually go with the brisket, ribs and Munchies all for under $22 with PLENTY of leftovers to take home! Sunday’s the kids meals are only $.99 and in honor of Mother’s Day, they gave all mother’s a coupon for a FREE entree for redemption anytime within the next 30 days. Our whole bill came out under $40 including tip and arcade token money! Needless to say, we’ll be going back on a Sunday sometime in the next month for an even cheaper dinner!!!

We stopped in Walmart for a few $5 cases of soda, $2.00 strawberries, milk, bread and a few other odds and ends then back to the house we headed. On the way home, we decided the van interior needed some serious TLC. After all, we Spring cleaned the house last week so it was appropriate we do the same our vehicle!!! One garbage bag later and after some vacuuming and organization, we have a dealership clean van! All that’s missing is the “new car” smell!

I really enjoyed my Mother’s Day! How did you spend yours???
